What you see above is the original answer I posted here. WGT later introduced new ball types, including GI2-D and GI3-D, which slow down the meter more than GI-SD, although they do not provide as much extra distance as GI-SD.

Here's an overview of all 15 currently available ball types (ignoring the basic balls), stating the price for a 3-pack, the red-colour variety. You may click the links to compare the details of the various properties in the charts (number of dots), although they are also described in words here:

There is a new GI2-D ball. Same as GI-D but 2 "feel" points, so it slows the meter down more than the other GI category balls. $0.69 in red. Durability is 1/2 point less.

I'm on my 2nd sleeve of the Tour GI-S, still getting used to the "throwing darts" at the green method of approach shots, so I can't be arsed to get used to another ball.

More consistent hits on the sweetspot's gotta be a nice for people struggling with the meter though. If you get this new ball and play with the Raptor irons, you could start your swing go fetch a cup of coffee, come back and complete your swing. :cheesy:

Thanks for reminding me, LBC. I have now added the 2 new ball types, GI2-D and GI2-S, to the list above. We now have 10 different ball types (apart from the standard ball).

What's interesting (and inconsistent) is that this only applies to the GI2-D ball. The GI2-S ball has the same durability as its predecessor, the GI-S ball. Image

This post by Nivlac back on Feb 5th is the best explanation that I have seen on how the ball speed works vis a vis the swing meter:

Meter speed (or rather how the ball affects the speed) can be inferred from the chart. The first generation GI balls (anything that doesn't have a 2) have 2 of 10 FEEL rating while the second generation GI balls have a 4 of 10 rating.

It's my estimation that every 2 points of feel (or in WGT terms, every 1 full bubble) will slow down your meter approximately 1 speed. In other words, if you are playing the 5 speed G10's and you couple it with a GI-2S ball, you should experience a meter that is roughly equivalent to the Tour Starter clubs (rated 3) with default balls.

To answer your last question, any ball prefixed with a GI will slow the meter down, but you'll need to consult the ball's feel rating and use the estimates above to figure out roughly how much.
